People that stay in the same job or work at the same company for years and years and years...
How the fuck do people do it?!?!...

After 2 years somewhere, I start getting really bored... I look to leave before 3 years... Can't stay anywhere much longer than that...

Some cunts have been at my place of work for 25+ years... A few of them have even been in the same exact job...

Fuck that... Fucking hell...

Someone I know contracts herself out doing marketing stuff. Left her old job years ago and now just spends 3-6 months or so working for different firms round the country doing things like business development and organising print media etc thru contacts she made at her old job for as much as she can and then fucks off travelling for a couple months, repeating over and over. Manages to hold down a mortgage and all that

Sounds a blinding living compared to a decades-long "career" that most people seem to aspire to, where you're tied to whatever your boss tells you.

Might seem (and probably is) an immature as fuck attitude to many on here, but I personally can't get my head round this notion people have that there's something noble in working your arse off to make someone else rich, who'd chuck you on the scrapheap in an instant if they felt like it.

All of you harping on about final salary pensions have got it all wrong. You'll retire at 65 and then be bored within 12 months. Having not been challenged for 40 years your brains will deteriorate fast and you'll be dribbling wrecks by 80.

Those who change regularly will work until 75-80 on good salaries (so good savings and house) and will be fresh for new exciting challenges in retirement.

Doing the temping curcuit on and off for about 6 years in London, I noticed that at almost every office you got put at, there'd be someone there who'd do nothing but moan about how shit it is and give it "I'll be out of here soon, trust me" all the time to anyone who'd pretend to listen.

Absolutely nailed on 100% if you went back there next month, next year, or even years later.... they'd still be there, moaning about the same old shit.

Smif, I've been contracting for the past 4 years. It's a very different way of working that doesn't suit everyone but works for me. When your working you are earning a premium and unless you spunk every penny you earn then you'll build a battle fund to tide you over between contracts. For me I've got around a year that is covered by what's in my company account.

Do these roles go perm? On occasions but to me I run for the hills as soon as they mention the P word. It's a brave decision to leave a perm role for contract but if you get it right and you enjoy it it's the best decision you could make

Good luck

I tend to move on every 3-4 years. Usually have learnt all I can in that time and then look elsewhere for some mental stimulation.

A lot depends on the type of work Smif. If it's a 6 month project, and they will have more projects, then why lose a good worker and have to recruit again.

All depends if the work is sustainable. If it's a maternity cover FTC and the lady is going to be coming back to work, then it may or may not extend based on what she decides to do etc.

All depends on circumstances.

This thread has saved me starting my own one. Recently interviewed for a job on a 6 month FTC. Fantastic job and benefits but I've never worked on contracts like that before. Always been used to the security of a permanant role so it's a big gamble.
Any of you work on short contracts like this? Do you find they often end up in perm roles or is it over when its over?
Really not keen on crawling back to my current employer after 6 months looking for my job back.

Dicksie, would the same go for sports players e.g. If Trevor Brooking chose to sack West Ham in because he was bored shitless?

Mate of mine has just left a job having spent 15 years there.

Fuck me, I think I'd have walked in there and shot everyone at some point long before that.

Nearly 3 years at my current place. I won't be here for 4.

Move on and make more money.
